Calculate tip and split the bill instantly
This free tip calculator works out the tip, the total bill and how much each person pays when you split the check. It is useful for restaurants, bars, cafes, food delivery, salons and any other service where you want to leave a tip.
Pick a tip percentage with one tap or type your own, choose how many people are sharing, and the result updates instantly.
Example: an $80.00 bill with an 18% tip split between 4 people. Tip = 80 Γ 0.18 = $14.40. Total = 80 + 14.40 = $94.40. Each person pays 94.40 Γ· 4 = $23.60, which includes $3.60 of tip each.
In the US, 15% to 20% of the bill is the usual range for sit-down restaurants, and 20% or more is common for excellent service. Counter service and coffee shops are often 10% to 15%. Use the tip buttons or the custom box to try different amounts.
Both are common. Many people calculate the tip on the pre-tax amount, while others use the total. Enter whichever amount you prefer in the Bill Amount box.
Find 10% by moving the decimal one place left, then add half of that amount. For an $80 bill, 10% is $8 and half of that is $4, so a 15% tip is $12.
Set the number of people with the + and β buttons. The calculator adds the tip to the bill and divides the total equally, then shows what each person pays and the tip per person.
A tip of 15% to 20% is common for food delivery, and many people tip a smaller amount or round up for takeout. The guide at the bottom of the calculator shows typical ranges for different services.
No. Tipping customs differ a lot between countries, and in some places a service charge is already added to the bill. Check your receipt before adding a tip.
Note: Tipping norms vary by country, venue and personal preference. The percentages here are general guidelines, not rules.
